About Des Moines
Iowa's Capital City, Our Home Base
Des Moines is Iowa's capital and largest city, built where the Des Moines and Raccoon rivers meet. The gold dome of the State Capitol sits over the East Village, and downtown keeps busy with the Saturday Downtown Farmers' Market, Iowa Cubs games at Principal Park and the walking loop around Gray's Lake.
Our corner of town has history too. Army Post Road takes its name from Fort Des Moines, and the Fort Des Moines Museum just down the road tells the story of the first officer training camp for Black soldiers in 1917. When we say we're proud of the south side, we mean it.
